Race History:

The Southern California Half Marathon evolved from the success that Woodbridge High School enjoyed in the staging of the famous Woodbridge High School Cross Country Classic.  The Half Marathon is staged to benefit Woodbridge H. S. Athletics and the programs provided by Families Forward (an organization dedicated to helping homeless families and families in-need re-establish themselves in our community).

The growth of the Half Marathon has paralleled the growth of the Invitational.  The first year that the Half Marathon was staged by the Woodbridge Athletic Boosters, some 950 runners participated.  Over the past thirteen (16) years, the race has grown steadily to the present status (4,500 + or so runners) of one of the premier running events in Southern California.

The race has earned the honor of being an offical warm up race for the L.A. Marathon, the O. C. Marathon and the Pacific Shores Marathon and has developed a partnership with Students Run LA to give "at risk" students from Southern California the opportunity to train and complete the LA Marathon.

The race has enjoyed the continuous support of various parts of the Irvine Community: The City of Irvine, the Irvine Company, Albertson’s, Eisntein’s Bagels, Claim Jumpers, Panera Bread Restaurant, the Irvine Water District and Tustin Lexus to just name a few.
